1/1/06: This morning I awoke to find a fresh Coat of newly fallen Snow serving as the Backdrop for my first Bird Sighting of the New (calendar) Year! There, on my Feeder, sat Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal!
Cardinals signify an increase in spirituality, and the Fact both Male and Female were side by side indicates greater Balance coming as well. They also symbolize renewed Vitality through increased Self-Importance, according to Ted Andrews. Of course, a Shaman defines Self-Importance differently. We view that as being more effective in stepping out of the Way and allowing the Helpers to do more important Work THROUGH us. Their gorgeous Whistling is a Call to listen more to the inner, feminine and intuitive Voice. So given how wonderfully effective the Helpers have been in working through me lately, this Gift signals even greater Effectiveness ahead. It's a real Thrill!
2/11/06: On the Mongolian New Year's Day (1/29), the first day when Shaman work can begin again after a two week Rest Period, I was driving in Portland when a Hawk flew across my line of Travel, chased by three Crows! It came in from the right, indicating Danger or a need to be wary. This was a very powerful message, this first sighting of the New Year. It told me that I, 4 Hawks, would be having a Year of challenge and relative danger in my Shaman Work..of being chased, both by work and Beings who would try to hinder me. Yet, I would sail along unharried, just as the Hawk had just done.
What makes this even more compelling is that a few days ago, having just gotten back from my work run, I was standing outside in the parking lot when the exact same scene replayed: a Hawk chased by Crows. Only this time the Hawk landed in the Top of a Tree neaby and just sat there while the Crows dive-bombed him. It was as if the Hawk was perched atop the Tree of Life. Eventually Hawk flew off with Crow chasing. This time the scene went from left to right, a more positive sign.
In both instances, this was a direct message to me concerning the amount of challenge I would have..it will be a very busy and rewarding year in Spirit Work for me!
And then this morning, while going out to pray, a Broad-winged Hawk landed on a branch right next to where I enter my Altar area. It sat there for 5 minutes, keeping me enthralled and in deep thanks for this powerful Spirit Visit. what makes this all the more compelling is that about 5 minutes prior to this I had been thinking about placing these Hawk-attack events up here on the blog..and voila, a Hawk comes to validate the thought. This is how nature talks to us..if we listen. In fact, yesterday, I saw two Hawks in a field, one circling while the other sat watching..a male and female pair. Later in the day I saw yet another Hawk floating by. So these were the announcer sightings to this morning's grand Visit..Hawk Medicine was and is strong!
