Journey 186 - A Woman's Relationship

4/8/05:

The reason was to check the status of a woman’s relationship and see what the future might hold.

The journey began in a home movie theater mode. My Shaman’s Mirror was hanging on the wall before Owl and I, and the Mirror soon transformed into a small screen. A cartoon began playing. A very colorful wood’s edge appeared, and I saw a small White Rabbit eating grass while a small Deer stood nearby nibbling on the bushes. One could almost have considered them friends, given their proximity and seeming comfortableness with one another. Suddenly, a Hawk scooped down and grabbed Rabbit. Hawk soared away with Rabbit, and soon dropped him down not a farm area chock full of Rabbits. The scene switched back to the wooded area. Deer was shot by a hunter. I soon saw Deer standing in a farm area that was full of other Deer. The two farm areas were side by side. Rabbit and Deer both meandered toward the fence between the farms and came together. They were side by side, and suddenly the cartoon cycled to the beginning again. Apparently this was some sort of loop, a repetition of a life-death-life circuit. I then saw the little movie room we were in transform to a more natural outdoors setting. I saw a stage there, and as walls and ceilings formed around it, saw a man and woman were on it, arguing. From here on, the scenes became more sporadic and intermittent. I saw beer cans being taken out to be recycled, and a couple living in relative harmony. The next scene was a beautiful shaded road adjacent to a farm area..but this time in real imagery versus the earlier cartoon. I saw a farm scene with a man operating a tractor next to a very large barn and wooden crates of hay. I saw him riding off into a furrowed field to prepare it for sowing. I then saw a scene involving a military setting in which a man was under the command of a Sergeant type sitting at a desk. Since the imagery was so scattered and varied, I asked Eagle Claw for a resolution. What came next was quite disturbing. I saw a coffin pop up out of the ground. The coffin then changed into a wedding limousine. I was in the limo with the married couple as it began to roll. As we past the wedding guests, all dressed up in formal wear, I looked back and saw virtually all their faces were skeletal..just fleshless skulls. I was then back in the movie room. Eagle Claw got up and patted me on the shoulder and left, while I sat, staring alternately at the floor and the blank screen in front of me.

A few Notes: The cartoonish beginning may be a reference to either or both partners in the relationship having a “made-up”, “hand-drawn” or “imaginative” view of it. The repetition of the scene in which both partners meet their end in violence, only to return to the beginning and start all over, reflects a lack of growth despite experiences that should be teachers. An escape from this trap could save the relationship from its current loop.

One of the people is the relationship is represented by Rabbit, the other by Deer. Here is a short summary of the main qualities of each, courtesy of Ted Andrews and/or Jamie Sams' books:

Rabbit: Associated with fear in some minds, a superlative defensive capability in others. They can go from “0 to 60” in seconds, implying this person can/should take advantage of fleeting opportunities. They teach you to recognize the signs around you, and recognize the tides of movement in your life. This leads to greater fertility.

Deer: Associated with gentleness and innocence, luring to new adventure. Deer have great vision, and offer the ability to therefore detect subtle movements and hear what is not being directly said. Deer implies a new innocence and freshness is being born. Questions from Deer: Are you trying to force things? Are others? Are you being too critical and uncaring of yourself? Deer lends the opportunity to express a gentler love that can lead to new adventures.

The second set of scenes involving a man working a farm and spending some time in the military may be a new relationship that has yet to occur..or indicative of a change in the current one with time. In a way the latter does not seem likely, since when I asked my Guide for a resolution of the confusion felt, I saw that fairly gruesome wedding party scene that ended the Journey. This tells me that the current relationship will not end happily.

4/12: The woman reports that this Journey “nailed” her relationship right on the head..she was just curious as to whether she was the rabbit or the deer...
