Journey 196 - The Skull Dream

4/20/05: A journey to investigate a Dream Tuecke's (see recent Journeys) new Body had a short time ago. In her words:

“I was also wondering if you could look into this dream I had this morning. I was supposedly far away from home. Not sure where. There were others in my dream I do not know who they were. They killed someone and I buried the skull. These people wanted to make sure that the remains could not be found. Sorry, this is so vivid. But, why would I be burying someone's skull? That is all I remember from this part of the dream. Then the dream jumped to my friends house that I have been friends with since High School. I felt like something was wrong there. I also sensed that her husband might be pissed off about something that has to do with me. But, don't know what.

The weird thing is, my husband told me yesterday that he saw a crow in the middle of our back yard looking for food. Can you find out what all this means?”

I agreed to check it out, and after opening Sacred Space and Smudging, I headed out into the Journey. I found myself sitting rather far up in a Tree with no Leaves. Below me was a narrow dead-end Road with a deserted 2-story House (with large Attic making a 3rd level) to my left of center. It was totally dark, like the Night around me, save for a single Street Light to my right, several hundred feet down the road away from the end. Owl then arrived. He was glowing red on his left side, green on his right..his head was black. He landed beside me. We decided to go into this House and see what was up. I became Hawk, and my colors became the mirror opposite of Owl’s. We merged as one on the way down, and became invisible. We flew into the 2nd story Window nearest us. We were inside a very dark and old Bedroom. No sign of Life. But we could see a trail of Footprints going down the Steps..the Prints were a deep red, as if of the memory of Blood. We went down into the Cellar. There we found a very elderly Man, large framed but very tired and sweaty, slowly digging up an old Skeleton. The death of this buried person must have occurred in the Bedroom. No cause was apparent. The scene then shifted out to the Field beyond a stock of Trees just beyond the edge of the dead end Road. There I saw the Girl burying the Skull of her Dream. I got the impression the People standing around this scene were members of the old Man’s Family. They were claiming they were covering up a Crime of his, he was too old and mentally insufficient to have to pay now. He had apparently been off his rocker for a good part of his Life, and was even more so now. By now there was a party in the upstairs of this House, and we were suddenly inside too. I saw the Man in the Dream disapproving of Helen’s actions. He seemed to be referring to her burying the Skull, but that was an impression, not made clear. At this point I reviewed the Journey to this point. I failed to see the meaning in it. Who was the Person who was killed? Why was the Girl involved at all..she was not a family member. What was in it for her..was she under a threat? I didn’t see anything threatening. There seemed no lesson here..just more detail. I asked Owl. We went back into the Tree, and suddenly I saw a strong Breeze blow in with the Light of Day. The Light and Wind swept away the people standing near the burial site. I was then told..this whole thing is a metaphor for the Girl burying herself! The family members were actually Spirit Helpers of hers. She was burying her Fear of Death. I saw the scene of the House and field suddenly become part of a toy Train Table (ala the movie Beetle Juice). I was then taken back in time to when the Girl was very young. There was a Train incident that put the recognition of Death into her for the first time. I saw several options: she was almost hit; someone close to her was almost hit; or someone may have been killed. It wasn’t clear. Then I was told that the disproving Husband signaled that by overcoming Death on her walk into becoming a Shaman practitioner or beyond, some of her friends will not be happy with the changes in her. This was all I could get from this Journey..the Call Back Drumming brought me home.

Some notes for interpretative value: Red is the color of the Base, or Survival, Chakra. Green is the color of the Heart Chakra. Black represents the night, or the opposing Forces. Taken in sum, one sees a battle going on within the Girl concerning survival of her Heart’s longings, and this battle is now in full swing “in the dead of night.” There may, of course, also be some Christmas connection. The fact the Journey began with a deserted house at the end of a dead-end road in the middle of the night implies the depths of abandonment and loneliness that may be buried in her depths. Her burying her own Skull is an attempt to break the hold these forces have on her, and the warm light that resulted from her actions adds credence. The appearance of the movie Beetle Juice was odd, but did lead to the important train incident. Perhaps the year of its release has something to do with (1988).

The Crow pecking in the middle of the yard, to me, implies that the burying of the Skull was the central theme of this Dream..the lesson intended. To be an effective Shaman, one must deal with one’s own Death until it no longer means anything. I have scene myself killed and dismembered any number of times, only to find I was still alive outside my Body. So I have reached that point of no fear. This was even the central tenet of the Shaman Jesus’ message: he came to overcome death. I feel this attempt to begin the processing of overcoming that Fear was the main point of this Dream.

Here was her reply: "
A lot of things that you mentioned are many things that have happened or somewhat are happening right now. The part about the dead-end road with a field, my friend from High School grew up on a dead-end road with a big field next to her house and we hung out there a lot. Her husband who she is married to now also hung out there at that time, but he was only a friend at the time. Her husband apparently did not and I still think he does not like the way I do things and has said that I have an attitude. But, I have never had an attitude towards him so I don't understand why it would affect him. Like you said, you failed to see the meaning in it. So, I agree. He in the past has tried to get involved in my friendship with his wife. But, I would be here for many years trying to expain my long history with this friend. I also don't think the friendship will ever be the way I want it to be. I will expain it to you one day when we eventually meet. Also, my friend has had a lot of parties in that house including Christmas night get togethers every year until I got married. When that stoped don't think my friend liked it, but hey we all have to grow up sometime. She also has parties now. But, does not live in that house anymore. I am not sure who this dead man is either. But, my friend's father did die when she was young. So not sure if there is any connection.
The Beetle Juice movie mentioned, I had a dream about this movie in the past but have never seen the movie. Will have to rent sometime. But, I went online to read a little bit about the movie. This movie sounds like it relates to my friendship with this friend. I met my friend in 1988, we were in the tenth grade at the time.

Not sure about the part below. I don't remember any of this happening. "There was a train incident that put the recognition of Death into her for the first time. I saw several options: she was almost hit; someone close to her was almost hit; or someone may have been killed. It wasn't clear."
Yes, I think I have some fears, but trying to change a lot of things in my life to overcome those fears. A lot of things have happened in my life in the past two years, which I have learned from. I also think, I have become a much stronger person. But, still sensitive. Hee, hee, hee.
